'Cause Men Don't Cry

Hey look! How he cries like a girl...Kya rotlu hai be!! (What a cry baby he is!)
Look at you man, Abey, how can you cry like this?

Often, in this hypocrite society, guys are meant to be the tough ones. By default, it is presumed, that a man cannot be sentimental and if so, he becomes a weak or a lame person by the standard definition. Excuse Me? Who are you to decide this?

I’d been thinking about this post a lot, but I always fell short of words and hence the POST was being continuously POSTponed :-p. Anyways, without any further delay, coming back to my post. Hmmm…. men don’t cry. Why cannot they? Well, I’ll give you a plenty of reasons why they can.

Well, let me tell you that even men have feelings, even men have sentiments, and EVEN MEN HAVE A HEART THAT FEELS. But yes, this is and has been overlooked and neglected always. They are always supposed to be composed and in control of their emotions, for they have to console or handle the women! Or maybe anyone else who is - well - not so composed. Not necessary. For bottling up the emotions leads to stress, which is why most of us men have more heart attacks than women! Seriously!

Recently, one of my friends was feeling utterly low. So like the good friend that I am, I asked him what it is that is bothering him. He told me he had been in a relationship for a couple of months, with a girl who in his words, was the most adorable person anyone could have. But, although she always said that she loved him, all she did was to make him realize that he is not like others, or that he did not have any impressive qualities. Even though he felt bad, he never let her know that. “I want to cry, but what would she think of me? What if anyone sees me crying? I don’t want others to make fun of me...” he said. I felt bad for him and I was shocked at the pressure, a simple unwritten rule about being tough could put on a ‘Man’….a human being. I wanted to tell him Hey dude! Go and cry your heart out. Don’t give a shit about what people thinkbut then you see the manly egos that we have, stopped me from saying that…. ;-p.

I myself have been through a lot of emotional ups and downs in the recent past and even I had the same feeling…No man, you’re a guy, you cannot cry…(yeah, even I do that! :|), because we grow up in a society where we are taught this. We hate it, yet we have to live in it. And then, one day I remembered my own words (My advises are normally for others, I don’t follow them...) Hey go and cry your heart out. Don’t give a fuck to what people think. That day, I cried. I cried a lot. Feelings are meant to be expressed not to store inside…and yeah, I didn’t feel that I was weak or lame. In fact, I never felt better!

So, even men can cry, because they’re human beings first. When they could cry as a child without worrying about the consequences, then why not now? They are still the same person; people around would still love them. So guys, go ahead. Express yourself, CRY OUT LOUD (But don’t start at the same time, we don’t want a flooded world, fellas… ;-)

Bald & Beautiful...

Hmmm........My first ever blog post. The thought itself thrills me to the core!! I just made an unplanned jump into the blog world, so pardon me if I get amateurish with my thoughts [but you would love them still....!! :P ;) ]

So, coming on to my blog topic without anymore How-I-came-here story, "BALD & BEAUTIFUL"(Interesting Name, isn't it??). I have no idea how I ended up with this title, but I have been giving it a thought for a while now.

I recently lost my maternal Grandma... :( who was one of the best persons I could have ever had in my life. So as are the traditions, men directly related to that person need to shave their hair off and go bald. As a child, at one occasion when I had to do the same, I never liked it (and who likes to?). Not that I am disrespecting the traditions, but I always wanted to know why it is so. Whats with the hair?? So when I had to shave my hair off recently, I decided to find the reason behind it.

Come, take a walk with me through the wilderness of what I found....

In Hinduism, it is believed that the first person to meet with death was YAMA and this dubious honor makes him the only person [though he has more of a Lord status... ;)] who can guide other mortals to death. He has the sole authority of passing judgments on other mortals who follow him to the Heaven or to Hell where they are treated according to their life and doings prior to death. A good life prior to your death ensures you the Swarga, where there is everlasting enjoyment of all the heavenly pleasures, include the restoration of a sick body, the maintaining of family relations and the highly desired apotheosis  whereas a person who is judged not to be good goes to the Naraka, where they are punished aptly for their wrong doings.

Hindus believe that when a person dies, he needs to be burnt so that the soul can be released from the mortal world. Not only that, they follow a twelve day ritual called shraadh, which is an attempt to please the guide king YAMA, as it is believed that the soul would reach to its destiny on the twelfth day. In this pursuit of pleasing, they offer their hair to the king so that he would be lenient to the departed soul.

This offering, modified, turned and twisted over the ages to as it is today, where all the men related to the departed soul should shave their hair. AND BALD IS INDEED BEAUTIFUL, ISN'T IT??
